I don't know why I read articles, then scroll down to read the comments section. Why do I insist on torturing myself with nonsense comments from the un-informed?? It probably says more about my inability to recognize futility than anything else, yet still…I can’t seem to help myself. The original article was a comparison between Ivermectin and the new antiviral drug from Merck. It was a pretty straightforward comparison, but there's always at least one person who totally misses the big picture. I decided it would be better to vent to you, my wonderful readers, than rip out my hair or shove a fork in my eye.
I seriously had to put down my fork. If I die during this pandemic, it will likely be from self-inflicted fork to eye injury and not Covid19.
Did I scroll past this ridiculous remark?? Nope. I couldn’t do it. To be honest, I didn’t even try. This argument is like saying “Sara was in a horrible car accident. She was pinned in the burning vehicle. Paramedics and firefighters had to amputate her leg to extricate her from the car. How could they do that? Couldn’t they see she’d just had a pedicure?? $30.00 down the drain!” (Technically only $15.00 since she retained her other leg, but I digress.)
I HAD to comment. (UGH! I’m so weak!)
I'm an RN and I can guarantee you ivermectin is safer, not only in theory but in practice, than late treatment of covid19 in a high risk patient. The gut microbiome is wiped out when we put someone on the ventilator and start pumping broad spectrum antibiotics into them. Tube feeding only adds to the problem causing intractable diarrhea which necessitates placement of a rectal tube to keep the constant liquid from breaking down the skin. The risk of stroke from microemboli is astronomically higher than any neurological effects seen in patients receiving properly dosed ivermectin for 5-10 days. Additionally, being in an induced coma for days to weeks causes significant adverse neurological issues. In 18 years as a nurse I've never seen a patient have a serious adverse event (or even a moderate adverse event) from stromectol (ivermectin). It is routinely prescribed to children and I've never seen injury even in children. So the premise, that 3mg "could" cause neurological issues, is flawed. When we look at real-life patients and the risk vs benefit ratio of ivermectin given early in infection vs medically neglecting patients until it's too late to save them, early treatment wins hands down. There are NO perfect drugs. However, ivermectin has a very well documented safety profile and is one of The WHO's essential drugs for very good reason.
To put this in clear perspective...I "could" be struck by lightning while robbing a bank, hopping on one leg, carrying a rabbit as my only means to evade arrest....but it's highly unlikely.
Here's the article. (You might want to step away from any sharp objects if you plan to skim the comments section.) 😉
I agree with you. Since this began I always said we need early treatments so not to over-run our hospitals and save peoples lives. I asked a dr. what I would have to do if I got Covid and they don't tell you anything other than treat the symptoms. Then if it gets worse go to hospital. This advise does not help anyone.
